International Projects of the National Aerospace University "Kharkiv aviation Institute" financed by Tempus and Erasmus+ projects

Introducing EU-compatible MSc Degree in Engines and Aircraft Power Systems

Specific Objective

The project is devoted to improving of the aerospace engineering education in Ukraine by introducing a new Master program in Engines and Aircraft Power Systems as the revised existing programs in aircraft Engines are conservative, outdated and very technically oriented; they do not involve modern concept of power systems design, which is introduced by world leading universities and research communities.

Project Type

Joint Project

Outcomes and outputs

The project team believes that this goal can be reached by fulfilling the following main actions:

1. Development of Bologna-compliant MSc program for the “Aircraft Engines and Power Systems” specialty (7 courses) in line with the needs of Ukrainian partners;

2. Establishment of the Resource Lab on Aircraft Power Systems at KhAI;

3. Facilitating MSc student mobility between European and Ukrainian stakeholders;

4. Organizing a concluding conference “Current Trends in Aerospace Engineering Education in Ukraine”.

By developing and introducing of new Bologna-compliant MS curricula, establishment and equipping the Resource Lab with required facilities and library, facilitating students’ mobility and sharing the achieved outcomes for other engineering universities which might have similar problems, the project will bring the following positive challenges in a short term:

1. The academic quality of engineering studies will be significantly improved; the courses to be delivered will include most recent achievements, standards, regulations in the area of engine design and power engineering for aircraft objects;

2. The practical classes of master students will allow them to use up-to-date equipment, paper and eresources on needed topics;

3. The professional, language and personal skills of master students graduating the specialty will be sufficient for entering doctoral studies on this specialty and successfully start their employment on the chosen industrial company without taking the ‘test’ periods at the enterprise.
