Intellectual Property Law: New Master Curriculum for the National Consultancy e-Centre on IP management


National Law Academy of Ukraine (NLAU), UA

The National Law Academy of Ukraine is the leading provider of law education in Ukraine. The Academy has 16,000 students. Entrance is very competitive and the Academy produces graduates of the highest quality. The upper levels of the legal profession are well represented by graduates of the Academy. Members of staff participated in the development of the constitution of Ukraine. Currently, there are members of academic staff acting as advisors for various commissions of the parliament of Ukraine. The Academy is the centre for co-ordination of legal education throughout the law faculties of Ukraine. The goal of the Academy is to remain the leading provider of law education in Ukraine. With partners in Germany, Spain, UK, France and USA, the Academy has participated in a number of international projects in recent years. Through an earlier successful Tempus project, the Academy has acquired crucial expertise and experience for producing learning materials, adopting new patterns of teaching and introducing Western law concepts into the curriculum.


Khmelnitskiy National University, Khmelnitskiy (KhNU), UA

Founded in 1964, Khmelnitskiy National University is one of leading universities of Podolia – biggest historical region in southwestern part of Ukraine. With academic staff about 800 and student body 11.500 University includes 8 faculties and study graduates for 42 specialties. There are 15 of scientific schools, 20 PhD specialties and 4 specialties for doctor of science degree studies. Each year the university organizes 9-12 international conferences and workshops on different subjects and applied and natural sciences. The faculty of humanities is rather young one at the university, established in 1989. The strategic aim of it is providing master and doctoral studies on the highest academic level taking into consideration the latest achievements of national and international theoretical developments and practical approaches. The faulty invites high qualified lecturers from European universities on a regular basis with the support of regional financing and international teacher exchange programs. The faculty includes the Department of theory and methodic of professional education, Department of Pedagogic and Psychology, Department of Political Sciences, Department of Law, Department of Philosophy.


National Aerospace University “KhAI” (KhAI), UA

With 11.000 students and 2700 academic staff, KhAI is one of the leading institutions of higher education in Ukraine in the training of specialists for aerospace industry in Ukraine and abroad. The University has trained more than 73.000 engineers during its lifetime, 80% of KhAI graduates are among the specialists engaged in aerospace industry of Ukraine. KHAI is involved in a large number of successful EC-funded projects in Ukraine in education (TACIS TEMPUS, Erasmus Mundus, DEFRA British Council). 2005 KHAI has established the University Technology Transfer Office in 2005 which mission is to strengthen the overall competitiveness of the industry throughout the improvement of industrial environment, and the promotion of application of information technology and consulting services in various fields. University Technology Transfer Office core business includes: - Event Management: Full package of management, technical and logistical turn-key solutions for public events; - International Cooperation: Design, develop and facilitate the cross-border collaboration; - Marketing and Promotion: Increase public awareness, distribute information to the target population, build market image and promote business.


Academy of Law Sciences of Ukraine (ALS), UA

Academy of Law Sciences of Ukraine is the public scientific body of Ukraine which carries out fundamental research in the area of the state and the law. The Academy network comprises of 7 institutes with the public funding. The academic staff is 497 persons including 71 doctors of sciences and 138 PhD. An establishment of legal and scientific ties of the law education between research centers, national and regional authorities and academics is one of the basic fields of Academy’s activities. The main responsible body within Academy will be the scientific-research institute of intellectual property established by the decree of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No 582. The key activities of the institute are: carrying out the fundamental and practical research in the domain of IP; participation at the development of legal regulations in the area of IP; carrying out the scientificlaw and judgement expertise on IP issues.


Ministry of Justice of Ukraine (MinJust), UA

MinJust in the main body within national executive government authorities on implementation of state law politics. The main tasks of MinJust are:
- ensuring the state law politics;
- development the proposals on carrying out the law reform;
- ensuring the civil rights and freedoms in a specified sphere;
- coordination of the implementation of State program on adoption of Ukrainian legislation into EU legislation.


Ministry of Education and Sciences of Ukraine, UA

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is the central body of the government executive power performing the management in the area of education. Contact person is Ms. Olga Kotova, head of International agreements department of the Ministry.


Kungl Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Stockholm, SE

The Royal Institute of Technology (Kungl Tekniska Högskolan) was founded in 1827 and is the largest of Swedish technical universities. KTH is responsible for one-third of Sweden’s capacity for engineering studies and technical research at post-secondary level. KTH Executive School develops the skills of executives in business management and strategic leadership through executive programs. At the moment KTH Executive School has four different programs – Industrial Management, Infra Service Management, Consultancy Management and Nordic Growth Management – each program designed for companies with common business logic. Each program is designed for companies with common business logic, sharing a set of fundamental strategic issues and challenges in revenue creation. The programs combine practical case studies from the business world with theory from the academic world.


Swedish Agency for Higher Education (Agency), SE

The National Agency for Higher Education is the central agency that deals with issues affecting universities and higher education institutions in Sweden. The Agency conducts quality audits of higher education, exercises supervision of the higher education institutions, reviews and analyses the higher education system, evaluates qualifications awarded abroad, supports educational innovation and development and also provides information on higher education and encourages student recruitment. The aim of assessments of the right to award degrees - Masters and Bachelors, as well as vocational qualifications - is to assess an institution’s quality and its standard of education and research.


University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN), UK

Created in 1828, UCLAN now one of the largest universities in the UK with more than 32,000 students, 500 undergraduate courses and 180 postgraduate courses. University of Alicante (Alicante), ES

University of Ljubljana (LU), SI

The University of Ljubljana practices basic, applied and development research, striving for excellence and quality of the highest standard in all fields of science and arts, such as the humanities, social sciences, linguistics, arts, medicine, natural sciences and technology. Comprised of 22 faculties and student body of 27.000, the University provides instruction and training to prominent scientists and experts, capable of leading sustainable development. In 1919 The Faculty of Law was founded within the University of Ljubljana. The Faculty of Law has established research institutes, some of which became legally independent. These institutes are: the following Institute of Comparative Law, Institute of Criminology, Institute of Public Administration, Institute of Labour, Economic Institute of the Faculty of Law and Institute of International Law and International Relations. The Faculty of Law is strongly interconnected though institutes and its professors with universities and research institutes around the world. Thus, for instance, the Department of Law and Economics cooperates with WIIW Vienna, WWC Washington, link project University of Pennsylvania, Bologna University. The postgraduate law studies involve constitutional law, theory of the state and law, public administration, criminal law, criminology, international law, civil and commercial law, labour law and social security law, Roman law and legal history and legal and economic science. The Postgraduate study focuses primarily on international and EU aspects of law.
