Promoting Excellence in Aviation Engineering


Kungl Tekniska Högskolan (KTH), Stockholm, SE

The Royal Institute of Technology (Kungl Tekniska Högskolan) was founded in 1827 and is the largest of Swedish technical universities. KTH is responsible for one-third of Sweden’s capacity for engineering studies and technical research at post-secondary level. KTH is an international institution with established research and educational exchanges all over the world, especially in Europe, the USA, Australia and South-East Asia.

KTH and Stockholm University develop the IT-university into one of the worlds leading ITuniversities in terms of research and education. The information society's infrastructure is under focus at the university. The IT-University is located in Kista, the centre of one of the worlds leading ITclusters as well as neighbour to many of the most important companies within the technology intensive sector. It is also famous for its knowledge transfer structure and the strategy for development of academia-industry relations. KTH has developed and effectively functioning system for stimulating innovative and entrepreneurial thinking among its students and emplyees as well as tools to provide necessary support. This infrastructure includes incubators, consultancy services, internal training system and system for informational support. KTH works closely with national and multinational companies and venture capitalists. All this creates stimulating and comfortable invironment for entrepreneurship and development of extensive university-industry relations within the university.


University of Warwick, Mercia Institute of Enterprise, Warwick, UK

The Mercia Institute of Enterprise (MIE) was launched by Lord Sainsbury in January 2001 and comprises a partnership of all the West Midlands Universities led by the University of Warwick. MIE is one of 13 Science Enterprise Centres which have been set up to promote and develop enterprise and entrepreneurship in Higher Education. MIE designs and delivers high quality enterprise programmes & materials for students and business people.

Two working groups lead on the Institute’s key activities and projects: the Education Group, focusing on Enterprise education, training, Business Liaison and E-Learning and the Enterprise Group, which oversees university spin-outs, tech transfer, such as the Enterprise Fellowship Scheme, and commercialisation of university assets in general.


National Aerospace University “KhAI” (KhAI), Kharkov, UA

With 11.000 students and 2700 academic staff, KhAI (established in 1930) now is one of the leading institutions of higher education in Ukraine in the training of specialists for aerospace industry in Ukraine and abroad. KhAI has its branches in Mexico, Germany, Finland and China and cooperates with the first-rate national and foreign aerospace engineering enterprises: «ANTONOV», «BOEING», «AIRBUS» and participates in the international aerospace programs «ALPHA» and «SEALAUNCH».

The University has trained more than 73.000 engineers during its lifetime, 80% of KhAI graduates are among the specialists engaged in aerospace industry of Ukraine. The biggest air-freighter in the world AN-225 “Mriya” and AN-124 “Ruslan” are the labour of graduates of the KhAI.


Aviation science-technical complex after O.K. Antonov (ANTK), Kiev, UA

Aviation scientific-technical complex after O.K. Antonov was founded in 1946 by outstanding aviadesigner Oleg Antonov. Nowadys ANTK is the leading manufacturer of passenger and cargo aircrafts and the core enterprise in newly established “ANTONOV national corporation”. Since the first years more then 100 types of models and modifications of aircrafts were developed: AN-22 “Antey”, AN-124 “Ruslan”, the biggest world cargo aircraft AN-225 “Mriya”, passenger plains AN- 140 and AN-148 which are designed togther with Russian manufacturers and design bureaus. Since 1985 more than 1600 airplanes were exported to 50 countries of the world.

Complex engineering and manufacturing carried out by ANTK include all stages of design, construction and developing activities. More then 80% of administrative, engineering and research staff of ANTK are former graduates from KhAI, the Constructor Chief of ANTK, the Hero of Ukraine, is KhAI graduate too.

Since the first years of its functioning, ANTK supports close partnership with KhAI in the areas of training and re-training the research and engineering staff, carrying out joint project in desing and implementation of new technologies, CAD/CAM/CAE modelling and design.


Ministry of Education and Sciences of Ukraine (MES)

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is the central body of the government executive power performing the management in the area of education. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine are:

- Develops the program of the development of education, state standards;
- Participates in the determination of the state policy in the area of education, science and professional training of specialists;
- Ensures the connection with educational institutions, government authorities of other countries, with respect to issues falling within its competence;
- Makes accreditation of higher and vocational educational institutes, issues licenses and certificates to them.


Ministry of Labour and Social Politic of Ukraine (MLSP)

Ministry of Labour and Social Politic of Ukraine (MLSP) is the central government executive body under the patronage of Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. MLSP is the leading body at the system of executive power responsible for implementation of state politic in the spheres of employment, social protection of inhabitants; payment, motivation and conditions of working, pensionary services, social facilities, labour relations “employee - employer”.


European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS), Munich, Germany

EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. The EADS Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world's largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and the joint venture MBDA, the international leader in missile systems. EADS is the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium, is the prime contractor for the Ariane launcher, develops the A400M military transport aircraft and is the largest industrial partner for the European satellite navigation system Galileo.

Corresponding to the product range, the company is subdivided into five divisions: Airbus, Military Transport Aircraft, Eurocopter, Defence and Security Systems and Space. EADS, an N.V. according to Dutch company law, employs about 110,000 people at more than 70 production sites, above all in France, Germany, Great Britain and Spain as well as in the U.S. and Australia. A global network of 29 Representative Offices maintains contact with the customers. In 2004, the company generated revenues of ? 31.8 billion.


External expert Prof. Eugene Nikifovich, Ukraine

Prof Eugene Nikifovich is an external expert in this project. He is a Director of Technology Transfer Centre at the National Technical University "Kiev Polytechnic Institute". Hes expertise and experience is relevant to the proposed project and will help achieving project goals and producing the project outcomes.

He also is a coordinator for Tempus project "Bridging the gap between university and industry" and his involvement in the project will result on syrgies between the project and further development of cooperation among leading engineering universities in Ukraine.
