Standardization of MSc Programmes in Aerospace Engineering

Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Operation and Automation (IFF), Magdeburg, Germany

The Fraunhofer Institute for Factory Planning and automation (IFF) is a scientific institute of Magdeburg University operating independently on its own scientific responsibility. In partnership with industry, the scientific community and the state, it conducts applied research and development of production and logistics systems, engineering products and services, in particular for Europe-wide aerospace and engine design industry. More than 1400 graduates and 170 postgraduates have their skills updating periods at the IFF. IFF research and development projects in recent years have aimed more at increasing the value added of existing production systems in aviation technologies.

Institute of advanced studies (IHS), Vienna, Austria

Founded in 1963 with the financial support from the Ford Foundation, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, and the City of Vienna, the IHS is the first institution for postgraduate education and research in economics and the ocial sciences in Austria. Multidisciplinary approaches and the combination of research and training are the main characteristics of IHS. From the very beginning IHS proves to be a "social innovation" committing Austrian economics and social. The high standards of the IHS academic training program make it possible to offer a joint Ph.D. programs with leading US and EU universities (Columbia University, University of Essex) in the field of economics. IHS has positioned itself as one of Austria's leading institutions in an increasingly internationalized research world. One example of this is the significantly higher number of European Union projects IHS has been assigned in comparison with other institutions. About one tenth of the commissioned assignments are EU projects (Intas, Phare, Tacis, TSER, HMC, Leonardo, etc.) and this percentage continues to rise.

National Aerospace University (KhAI), Kharkov, Ukraine

The Kharkov Aviation Institute was established in 1930 and there were only of two faculties aircraft building and the engine design at the Institute at that time. When the independence of Ukraine was proclaimed in 1991, National Aerospace University became the only institute of higher education in Ukraine providing versatile training for aerospace specialists. NAU «KhAI» is one of the leading institutions of higher education in Ukraine in the training of specialists for aircraft and aerospace industry in Ukraine and abroad. NAU «KhAI» has its branches in Mexico, Germany, Finland and China and cooperates with the first-rate national and foreign manufacturers of the aircraft engineering ANTONOV, BOEING, AIRBUS, and participates in the international programs ALPHA and SEALAUNCH. The University has trained more than 73.000 engineers during its lifetime. Eighty per cents of KhAI graduates are among the specialists engaged in aerospace industry of Ukraine. According to the statement No 285 of 31.07.1998 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine NAU ?KhAI? has been appointed as the key University in Ukraine responsible for the introduction of the two-level system (Bachelor - Masters) into curricula for aeronautic specialties.

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is the central body of the government executive power performing the management in the area of education. The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine are:
- Develops the program of the development of education, state standards;
- Participates in the determination of the state policy in the area of education, science and professional training of specialists;
- Ensures the connection with educational institutions, government authorities of other countries, with respect to issues falling within its competence;
- Makes accreditation of higher and vocational educational institutes, issues licenses and certificates to them.




Nowadays the university is an educational, research and production complex, which includes seven faculties, a sports complex, a canteen, a student sanatorium, a library, a Graduate School, a Postgraduate School, a Centre for Doctoral Training, a Regional Centre for Testing and other units. The University is a founding member of the Republican Innovative Unitary Enterprise «Scientific and Technological Park of Vitebsk State Technological University». The university has 19 chairs, 15 of which are graduate chairs. About 7,000 students study at full-time and correspondence courses. Scientific and pedagogical staff of the university amounts to 308 people, including 16 doctors of sciences, 118 candidates of sciences, 14 professors, 121 associate professors. Preparation of highly qualified personnel is being carried out: 27 people are being trained at the Postgraduate School in 7 specialties, 1 person is being trained at the Centre for Doctoral Training. Specialists are trained at the Graduate School in 9 specialties (56 people are being trained at the moment). The Council for PhD theses defense is working. Training of specialists with higher education is conducted in 20 specialties of stage I and in 9 specialties of stage II for light industry, textile industry, machinery and other sectors of the economy of the Republic of Belarus. Until now there have been trained about 35,000 specialists with higher education. Close cooperation with industrial enterprises has been established. 109 agreements on cooperation have been concluded with the contracting personnel until 2020. The University is a reliable partner of «Bellegprom» concern for training of specialists and implementation of research works.
